Bio Sketch
of Pastor James M. Brown

I was born
August 12, 1956, in Cambridge, Ohio – the fourth child
of John and Jean Brown. I
was saved at the age of nine at home, through the preaching of
Bro. Gary Ballard, at the Ebeneezar Baptist Church in
Bethesda, Ohio. Bro.
Ballard now pastors nearby in Hickory, NC.
I was later baptized at the age of twelve at the
Marietta Bible Center Church in Marietta, Ohio, pastored by
Dr. Myron Guiler.
I first felt
the call to preach at the age of sixteen at Hervida Bible Camp
in Beverly, Ohio. I
attended Piedmont Baptist College upon graduation from High
School to study for the Ministry, from 1974-1981, and received
the THB degree. I
began ministry as a vocation in 1978 at the Faith Baptist
Church of Winston-Salem, where I worked under Bro. Don Howard.
I was ordained in 1981 at the Twin City Baptist Church,
under Pastor Timothy Wolfe. I had a dual ordination, along with local pastor Jennings
O’Neill, of the Heritage Baptist Church.
My first
pastorate was the Calais Church in Calais, Ohio, where I
pastored for five years from 1981-1986. I accepted a call to Grace Baptist Church, in Minford, Ohio,
where I pastored from 1986-1994.
From 1994-1996, I was interim Pastor of Sedan Baptist
Church in Lucasville, Ohio and from 1996-2004 I pastored the
Madison Missionary Baptist Church in Minford, Ohio.
I
am married to Denise (Smith) Brown from Rocky Mount, NC, whom
I met at Piedmont Baptist College. We were married on June 25,
1977. We have three children – Amanda (Brown) Lockyer, the
eldest, whose husband Todd, is currently the interim Pastor at
Madison Missionary Baptist Church in Minford, Ohio; Alicia –
our middle daughter, is a rising Junior at Morehead State
University in Morehead, KY, where she majors in Theatre and
holds a Running Scholarship in Cross Country, Indoor and
Outdoor Track, as a distance runner; and our son, James Denton
(Jay), who is a sophomore in High School. |
